Forage Cream Cheese Frosting


Smooth, lightly tangy, and perfectly balanced. Sweetened with Homestead Sweetener for a refined finish, this frosting pipes beautifully over cakes, cupcakes, cinnamon rolls, and quick breads.

FORAGE BAKER'S NOTES

This frosting is intentionally balanced rather than aggressively sweet, designed to complement rather than overpower.

For a sweeter frosting, increase the Homestead Sweetener to a full 1 cup.

Always begin with fully softened cream cheese and butter for the smoothest texture.

For the lightest texture, beat until fluffy before adding sweetener.

INGREDIENTS

  • 8 ounces full-fat cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾–1 cup Homestead Sweetener, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • Pinch fine sea salt

INSTRUCTIONS

Beat the Base

In a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, or using a hand mixer, beat the cream cheese and butter together until completely smooth and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.

Add the Sweetener

  • Add the sifted Homestead Sweetener ¼ cup at a time, mixing on low speed at first and increasing to medium speed until fully incorporated.
  • Continue beating until light and airy.

Finish

  • Add the vanilla extract and sea salt.
  • Beat for another 30–60 seconds until silky smooth.

ADJUST THE TEXTURE

For a thicker frosting suitable for piping, chill for 15–20 minutes before use. For a softer spreading consistency, reduce the sweetener slightly.
